Big Boi and Andre 300 form one of the greatest hip hop duo’s ever. They’ve transcended hip hop over the years and despite the fact they haven’t delivered an album in over 11 years, they still stand strong in hip hop’s history books. Back in 2014, the duo sparked rumors of an official reunion after headlining Coachella and embarking on a slew of other shows. However, Big Boi later confirmed that no reunion project was in the works
In a recent interview with myAJC, they spoke to Big Boi about the possibilities of new music from Outkast. Despite the fact the two have embarked and solidified themselves as solo artists over the past decade, Big Boi admits the possibility of a new project from the Atlanta duo is possible but only when both parties are ready.
“I’ve always said, whenever ‘Dre is ready, I’m always ready. Right now he’s focusing on different things, and we respect that as a brotherhood. We text each other every other day. That’s my brother. We’ve done everything there is to do in music. We won the highest prize, we sold the most records. We started when we were 17 years old — let the man breathe a little bit,” he told them.
At this point, the idea of Big Boi and Andre 3000 reuniting on wax doesn’t seem likely in the foreseeable future but the two of them have had their plates full. Back in June, Big Boi released his third studio album Boomiverse and has been his focus. Andre on the other hand has embarked on other creative endeavors aside from music. It was recently announced that he’d be starring alongside Robert Pattinson for an upcoming sci-fi flick. Aside from that, he also spoke on his position in the rap game in an August interview. He mentioned the fact that he’d be fine without creating another Outkast album and that he looks at it as more of a hobby.
Either way, the two of them have popped up on stages together and 3K still comes through with the rare verses every once in a while so hopefully he may change his mind on the reunion in the future.
